Moose er blandt de jagtbare arter i Innlandet. Moose hunting is Norway's most popular big game hunt. For many hunters, it is the highlight of autumn. The hunt is typically conducted in teams, with hunters stationed at posts spread across a larger area while drivers move through the terrain. Good communication and safety are essential.

Udbredelse

Moose are found across all of mainland Norway, but the densest populations are in Innlandet, Trøndelag and Nordland. In the western coastal counties the population is thinner but growing.

Terræn

Moose live in coniferous and mixed forest, often near bogs and watercourses. In summer they browse in lush hillsides and along streams. In autumn they often move down to lower-lying forest.

Vægt

Live weight: cow approx. 280–400 kg, bull approx. 380–600 kg (the largest up to 700 kg). Carcass weight approx. 55% of live weight.

Terræn i Innlandet

Innlandet is by far Norway's largest hunting county, with everything from lowland forests in Hedmark to mountain areas in Jotunheimen. Østerdalen and Gudbrandsdalen are classic moose terrain with large continuous forest areas. The mountain areas Rondane, Dovrefjell, and Jotunheimen are home to wild reindeer herds. Meadow forests and cultural landscapes provide good conditions for roe deer.

Concentrate your hunting on the morning and evening hours. Moose are most active at dusk. When stalking, wind in your face matters more than anything else.
