Why we are building Hunta

From the founder

Hi, Filip from Hunta here

I started hunting a few years ago. I had always liked the outdoors, but hunting gave me something I did not find anywhere else. Sitting completely still at first light with every sense switched on, hearing a twig snap and feeling your heart beat in your throat, that is the rawest thing I know. That is where you feel there is something old in you, something that was there long before us.

But hunting also gave me a pile of things I had to work out on my own: where to sit, who holds the permits, where the boundary runs and what applies to the rifle. And it is not as if nobody has thought about this before, there are systems for everything, but they live in separate places and talk poorly to each other.

Then you finally sit on post, and the radio is silent. You do not know whether it works or whether nobody is answering, and you do not know where the others are, because the last you heard they were up by the big rock, and that was half an hour ago.

I wondered whether it was just me because I was new, so I asked around, and it was not. Most people recognised it, and several wondered the same thing I did: is there ground out there that never gets listed?

We built the platform first, then we tried the mobile apps that existed for the team in the field, and none of them were good enough for us, so we started building an app exactly the way we wanted it to be.

Hunta started in Ryfylke, and we think Norway is a good place to start taking hunting into the future, with plenty of hunters who are just demanding enough, long traditions and people who expect a lot from their gear. We like that, because we are not here to sell yet another half-decent solution. We are here because we had the problem ourselves and found out there were quite a few of us out there.

The whole hunt in one place, that is the goal.

What Hunta is

Easy to get out hunting. Easy to offer it.

Hunta is two things that belong together: a free app for the hunting team in the field, and a platform where grounds and licences are offered by the people who own and manage the hunting. If you buy a hunt through Hunta, the ground is ready on the map before you leave, with the boundaries, the team and the log on the same screen.

01

For associations, mountain boards and big-game districts

Licence sales with local pricing and draws, a member register with member pricing, and permits per district with harvests against the quota. One place for the whole organisation, not a spreadsheet per season.

02

For you who lease out hunting

List grounds or licences with a digital agreement and safe payment. It costs nothing, you approve the hunters yourself, and you keep the full price. No lock-in.

03

For hunters

A live map with the boundary, the team and the wind direction in real time, chat, and a log for harvests and observations. The app is free and the same on iPhone and Android.

What's happening

Latest from Hunta

New features, new grounds and what we learn along the way. We write it down as we go.

  • Next step: buying the hunt straight from the app

Hunting is bought on the web and hunted with the app, and the two don't join up well enough. The next step is that you find, buy and start the hunt in the app, and that the harvest goes on to where it belongs without anyone entering it twice.

  • No more invoices for members' hunting

Vindafjord Jakt og Fiskelag wanted to make hunting simpler, both for its members and for the people who run the association. Members now pay for the hunt when they book and pay the harvest fee when they submit the harvest report, and the association no longer sends invoices.

  • Hunting cards online in a single day

Nordre Kaldfjord Grunneierlag got its ground onto the map with a single click and had card sales ready the same day. When sales opened on a Monday evening in October, several days sold out before midnight.

Who's behind Hunta

The people behind Hunta

Filip Nag, founder of Hunta
Filip NagFounder and CEO

Filip came to hunting a few years ago and soon noticed how much of it was scattered: permits, agreements, maps and the team, each in its own place. He built Hunta to bring the whole hunt into one place, from the grounds you lease to the team you hunt with. What he enjoys most is taking new technology and making it so easy to use that you stop noticing it. He has been building companies for more than ten years and is a second-time founder.

Responsible hunting

Our commitment to responsible management

Good hunting is good management. We build Hunta so that harvests, quotas and agreements stay tidy for the hunter, whoever offers the hunting, and the game.

1

Knowing what is taken

Harvests and observations are logged in the app, so the team sees what actually comes out of the grounds through the season.

2

Quotas you can actually follow

Quotas are tracked digitally where the team hunts, not in a binder at the cabin.

3

Value creation in rural Norway

When offering hunting gets easier, more grounds become available, and the income stays in the local community.

4

Tidy agreements

Digital agreements make it clear who hunts where, and on what terms. That is safer for the landowner and better for the game.
