The red deer hunt has started, and the app got its first real test

The red deer hunt has started, and the app got its first real test

September 3, 2026•2 min read
The red deer season opened on 1 September. In the first three days, more hunting sessions were logged in Hunta than in the whole of August.

The first days

The red deer hunt opened on Tuesday 1 September. That is the date we have been building towards all summer, and the first days the app was used in earnest, by people we don't know, on ground we have never seen.

In three days, 50 hunting sessions have been logged in Hunta. That is more than in the whole of August put together.

Where we stand now

  • Close to 1,000 active hunters in the new app
  • Close to 400 hunting teams created
  • The app in both Google Play and the App Store, in six languages

The growth came in earnest in August, after the app landed in the stores, and it came above all from hunters passing it on within their own circles.

What we're watching for this autumn

The red deer season runs well into the autumn, and that is what we are watching now: that the app holds up when many people are out at once, that harvest reports come in by themselves, and that the map works where the coverage does not.

If you're out this autumn, download the app and bring it along. And tell us when something doesn't work, because that is how it gets better for next season.
