About shooting european shag

The European shag is a slimmer relative of the great cormorant. Hunting is done the same way, with stand hunting along the coast or from boats.

It is somewhat less wary than the great cormorant and can be easier to approach at regular roosting sites in the skerries.

Open Season

1 Oct – 30 Nov

Hunting is limited to the coastal counties. The shag is less numerous than the great cormorant.

Weight

1.5–2 kg

Distribution

The shag breeds along the Norwegian coast from Rogaland to Finnmark, with the greatest concentration in Northern Norway.

Terrain

Coastal waters and islets. The shag is more tied to coastal habitats than the great cormorant and is rarely found in fresh water.
