How we handle your personal data on Hunta, without the unnecessary legalese.

Last updated 27 October 2026

The short version

A quick summary of what matters most. The details follow below.

  • We only collect what we need for the platform to work.
  • We never sell your personal data. Measuring which ad led to an app install happens only if you say yes, and you can withdraw that at any time.
  • Your data is stored primarily in the EU/EEA through our providers.
  • You can request access, correction, or deletion at any time.
  • Questions? Email contact@hunta.no. We reply within 30 days.
01

Who we are

Hunta AS is the data controller for personal data processed through our platform. We run a digital platform that connects Guns with landowners for shooting experiences.

What personal data we collect

Information you provide directly

  • Account information: Name, email address, phone number
  • Profile information: User type (Gun/landowner), preferences
  • Payment information: Processed by Stripe (we do not store credit card information)
  • Communication: Messages, support inquiries
  • Property information (landowners): Location, description, photos of properties
  • Gun details: Your Jegerregisteret number and date of birth when you buy a day in Norway. We use them to check the Norwegian game licence fee with Jegerregisteret in Brønnøysund, and later to connect your account to Hjorteviltregisteret and Sett og Skutt if you ask us to. The date of birth is stored encrypted and is never shown to hosts or other Guns.

Information we collect automatically

  • Technical information: IP address, browser type, device type
  • Usage data: Page views, clicks, navigation patterns
  • Cookies: See our cookie policy below

What the Hunta app collects

  • Position during a shoot: While you have an active day shared with a syndicate, your position is uploaded so your fellow members can see where you are. You can turn sharing off, and the upload stops when the session ends. Out on your own, no position is sent.
  • Track log: Your route through the terrain is stored on your phone to calculate distance. It is not uploaded.
  • Photos: Photos you take or pick for a field report are uploaded with the report.
  • Notification token: An identifier from Google that lets us deliver push notifications to your phone specifically.
  • Advertising ID: Your device advertising ID is sent to our measurement provider, but only if you said yes. See 7.3.

What Hunta for Garmin watches collects

  • Pairing: The watch model and app version when you connect a watch to your account. You can remove a watch in the app, and it stops sending at once.
  • Your position from the watch: While the Hunta app is open on the watch during a shoot and your phone is not sending, the watch sends your position instead, under the same rules as positions from the phone.
  • Dogs: While the app is open, the watch passes on what your Garmin Alpha or Astro handheld broadcasts: each dog's name, position and status, and whether its collar reports low battery, lost GPS or lost contact. Everyone who sees the shoot on the syndicate map sees the dogs, and their trail is kept with the shoot.
  • Observations: Observations you log from the watch, as from the phone.
  • Chat: The watch shows the newest messages in your shoot and syndicate chats. Replies you send from the watch are posted in the shoot's chat under your name.

  • Security and fraud prevention
  • Marketing to existing customers
  • Analysis of usage patterns

Consent (GDPR art. 6(1)(a))

  • Marketing to potential customers
  • Cookies that are not strictly necessary

  • Measuring which ad led to an app install
04

Sharing of personal data

We share personal data with:

Service providers

  • Stripe: Payment processing (see Stripe's privacy policy)
  • Supabase: Database and authentication
  • Vercel: Hosting and infrastructure
  • PostHog: Analytics and user statistics (anonymised)
  • AppsFlyer: Measures which ad led to an app install. Runs only after you have said yes. See 7.3.
  • Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging): Delivery of push notifications to the app. The notifications carry no content. The text is assembled on your phone.
  • Garmin: Carries the watch's requests through the Garmin Connect app on your phone. What you send from the watch goes to Hunta, not to Garmin, and Garmin has no responsibility for it.
  • Mapbox: Maps and map tiles in the app.
  • Norwegian Meteorological Institute (met.no): Weather forecasts. We send a coordinate, not who you are.
  • Brønnøysund Register Centre (Jegerregisteret): Jegerregisteret number, date of birth and type of shooting when we check whether the Norwegian game licence fee is paid. The answer is whether the fee is paid, nothing else about you.

Other users on the platform

  • Landowners can see contact information for Guns who book
  • Guns can see public profile information about landowners
  • Hosts see whether the Norwegian game licence fee is confirmed paid for the Guns on a booking, never the date of birth

Legal requirements

We may share information if required by law or authorities.

05

Storage of personal data

  • Active accounts: As long as the account is active
  • Inactive accounts: 3 years after last activity
  • Transaction data: 5 years for accounting purposes
  • Marketing lists: Until consent is withdrawn
  • Support inquiries: 2 years after the case is closed

Data is primarily stored in the EU/EEA through our service providers.

06

Cookies, tracking and ad measurement

Necessary cookies

  • Authentication and sign-in
  • Security and fraud prevention
  • Technical functionality

Analytics cookies (requires consent)

  • PostHog for usage statistics and analytics
  • Anonymised data about page views and user behaviour

Ad measurement (requires consent)

  • On the website: tracking campaign effectiveness and personalised marketing
  • In the app: AppsFlyer measures which ad led you to install Hunta
  • That sends your device advertising ID, an install ID and your user ID
  • Two events, with no content: that you registered, and that you started a day. Positions, bag records and syndicate membership are never sent
  • Say no and nothing runs. Not one request leaves the phone. You can withdraw consent in your profile

You can manage cookie settings in your browser or through our consent banner.

08

Security

We implement technical and organisational security measures to protect your personal data:

  • Encryption of data in transit and at rest
  • Access control and authentication
  • Regular security updates
  • Security assessments of service providers
  • Incident response procedures
09

Changes to the privacy policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or through the platform. The latest version will always be available on this page.
